  1. Keep the anal area clean, and use wipes at all times during the healing process, even when you don’t have much pain.
  2. Avoid wearing tight clothing.
  3. Rest as much as possible.
  4. Fill your tub with warm water and sit in it after bowel movements (sitz bath).
  5. Use petroleum jelly before bowel movements and reapply after sitz bath.
  6. Avoid exercising and sitting for long periods of time.
  7. If you are constipated, take a stool softener.
  8. If you are dehydrated, drink water.
